Discord, a popular gaming and communication platform, has unveiled a new feature that allows users to discreetly block others without causing unnecessary drama or anxiety. The feature, known as ‘Ignore’, acts like a mute button, effectively concealing disruptive or abusive users’ profiles and messages.
To activate the Ignore feature, users need to navigate to the profile of the person they wish to ignore, tap on the triple-dot menu, and then select ‘Ignore’. This option is located in the same menu where the traditional ‘Block’ option can be found. Once activated, the user will no longer receive notifications or see any activity from the ignored individual across Discord.
Unlike the Block feature, which completely restricts communication between two users, the Ignore feature will still allow the muted individual to view the user’s profile, activity, and send messages. However, these messages will remain hidden unless the user decides to unhide them. The muted individual will remain unaware of their ‘Ignore’ status, thus eliminating potential confrontations.
Discord is incorporating the Ignore feature into its safety “toolbox” as part of an initiative to provide users, particularly teenagers, with more discreet methods of distancing themselves from others without escalating situations.
In addition to the Ignore Feature, Discord is also joining forces with OpenAI, Google, Roblox, and other companies to establish a non-profit foundation named ROOST. The foundation aims to provide open-source technology that can detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and make it available to various organizations, thereby enhancing overall online safety.
